One of the upsides of being an author is that you get to take out frustrations in your writing. Have you ever taken revenge on a real life person in a book? I’d love to hear your stories in the comments.

A writer’s life is a weekly comic strip for authors, created by Matthew Loffhagen and Standoutbooks. See the rest of the comics here.

Heh, I’ve totally done that. I’ll even use the machine gun method by creating a sinister antagonist with a melange of traits from folks that I feel less-than-fresh about. My GAWD is it satisfying when a reader tells you how much they love to hate that character.

Reader: “Is this based on someone you know?”

Me: “No, of course not. That would be evil.”

Yep, I’ve done this. Years ago a writer I totally despise picked out parts she liked from a story I wrote (even the MC’s name) and used it in a POS fanfic she posted online. I read her story, picked out the parts that were ridiculous (which was about 90 percent of it) and wrote a parody fic that was well received. I even used her characters’ names and totally skewered the concept of her story. Most people knew exactly what I did, who she was and they enjoyed it. After that I wanted more up close and personal revenge so I used her as a fairy tale troll critter in a short story and once again received much satisfaction. Revenge is truly sweet.
